The Ultra Conservative Catholic

Challoner Revision

This edition of the Douay-Rheims was done by Bishop Richard Challoner in 1749-1752. Challoner noticed how obscure that some passage were and edited them and changed the archaic spellings of some words. He revisions were minor as he wanted to remain in accuracy with the Clementine Vulgate.  The Challoner revision became the standard English Bible until the mid twentieth century when the likes of the Jerusalem Bible and New American were approved for liturgy.
