Pope St. Pius V

One of the greatest Popes in the history of the Papacy is Pope Pius V. Pope Pius V was born Antonio Ghislieri in 1504. He is noted for his many works dealing with the Liturgy during The Council of Trent. He became Pope in 1566 after the death of Pope Paul IV, who had closed the Council of Trent in 1563. Ghislieri had belong to Dominican order. He promulgated the 1570 Roman Missal and it was made mandatory in the Latin rite. Thus began the Tridentine Latin Mass used for the next 400 years, with minor changes within its time. He was the first to utilize the the canon and decrees of the Council of Trent and set the tone for mass for the first time since 1370. He passed away in 1572, beatified by Pope Clement X in 1672 and canonized as a saint in 1712 by Pope Clement XI. His feast day is April 30th
